Cherry Bench #2

30″ Long X 12″ Wide X 19″ Tall with Blind Spline Waterfall Legs
$475.00

On occasion I get slabs that lend themselves well to these blind spline waterfall leg joints. This one is a fine example. These joints require a lot of patience and precision to have them come out square, even, and attractive. The legs are joined with a hardwood (Ash) spline inside which is unseen and gives the joint very high strength and rigidity. It’ not magic, but it is tricky. Each joint generally requires 5 separate epoxy pours to make it right, each from different angles. The two branches coming out of the one side lend it additional character and makes one ponder which is the front and which is the back? That could be up to you. This tree was cut in Kerhonksen, NY several years ago to prevent damage to a home. All natural cracks and voids are epoxy filled and stabilized for a very smooth surface. In fact it has a ‘buttery’ feel to the wood. Finished simply with several coats of Tung oil and hand rubbed, this could also have Polyurethane added over the top if desired or just a hand rubbed wax. Cherry benches will darken and mellow over time if exposed to sunlight, giving a beautiful coloring. This one is a bit taller than I usually make, and if there is a burning desire I could shorten it for an additional cost.
